LEAV Aviation begins flying from Düsseldorf to Damascus
LEAV launches first direct connection between Germany and Syria in almost 15 years – new air transport agreement creates legal framework
Cologne, 27 July 2026 – LEAV Aviation is launching a direct flight connection between Germany and the Syrian capital Damascus. As the company announced on Monday, the first flight will depart from Düsseldorf to Damascus as early as 29 July 2026. According to the airline, this is the first direct connection between the two countries in almost 15 years.
The resumption of flights is based on an air transport agreement between Germany and Syria concluded in mid-July, which has re-established the legal framework for direct flight connections. Since the start of the armed conflict in Syria in 2011, direct flights between the two countries have not been possible due to the political and security-related circumstances.
An Airbus A320-200 with the registration D-ANNE will operate the route. Initially, two flights per week are planned. According to the company, the connection is aimed in particular at the Syrian community in Germany, who will be able to visit family and friends in their old homeland more often and more directly, as well as at business travelers.
“After almost 15 years without a direct connection, we are delighted to have made this nonstop flight to Damascus possible together with the German and Syrian authorities,” said LEAV Aviation CEO Daniel Broda, according to the announcement.
A travel warning issued by the German Federal Foreign Office continues to apply to travel to Syria. LEAV Aviation recommends that all passengers inform themselves about the current, binding guidance from the Federal Foreign Office and the relevant Syrian diplomatic mission before booking and departure, and ensure they have adequate travel health insurance coverage.
